Starzl, MD, PhD, initiated Children’s pediatric liver transplantation program in 1981, it quickly became the premier tertiary care provider for children with end-stage liver disease. Children’s also has been named consistently to several elite lists of pediatric health care facilities, including ranking seventh among children’s hospitals (FY 2005) in funding provided by the National Institutes of Health, and is named one of the best pediatric hospitals in the United States by U.S. News & World Report and Child magazine.
